Galaxies in Your Eyes
by Austin Lawrence
I saw galaxies in your eyes
reminiscent of a junkie’s angel.
The tourniquet tied
tight. Euphoric bliss. Strangle
the veins that stretch out to limbs.
Collapsed under the pressure
of a hypodermic syringe,
hoarding black pearls like treasure.
Monkey weight heavy on your back
all rheumy eyed and sick.
Blistering tracks
on your arms, from needle sticks.
Junky angel’s in the galaxies pray for the end of an epidemic.
Opiate addiction, fueled by pharmaceutical etiquette.
